Strong quake hits near New Zealand islands

No injuries or damage have been reported from a 6.7-magnitude earthquake that struck near the Kermadec Islands off New Zealand's coast.

A 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit about 48 miles from the Kermadec Islands off New Zealand's northwest coast Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

No tsunami warning has been issued, according to Tsunami.gov, a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's weather service.

Neither injuries nor damage have been reported for the 2 a.m. EDT quake.
