China unveils 'world's largest' building

The structure has three times the square footage of the Pentagon and is big enough to hold 20 Sydney Opera Houses.

The New Century Global Centre building is seen behind an artificial lake in Chengdu, in southwest China's Sichuan province. The center, claimed by Chinese officials to be "the world's largest standalone structure," has 5.5 million square feet of floor space — big enough to hold 20 Sydney Opera Houses — and is the latest symbol of China's economic boom.

The New Century Global Centre opened to the public on June 28.

According to this YouTube video, the structure will house offices and conference rooms, as well as southwest China's biggest shopping and entertainment mall and an artificial beach. The building opened June 28 after three years of construction.
