Prison guard charged for having sex with inmate
The prison guard is reportedly eight months pregnant with the inmate's child. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
A female prison guard may be carrying the child of a man who is in prison for killing two police officers, The New York Times reported.
Nancy Gonzalez, who is eight months pregnant, was charged Tuesday with having sex with a male inmate, the newspaper said.
According to the newspaper, the inmate is Ronell Wilson, who was convicted of shooting two undercover New York City police officers to death at point-blank range. He was sentenced to death.
The Times reported that the alleged relations between Gonzalez and Wilson "went on for more than four months last year in plain view of other inmates."
Gonzalez is charged with sexual abuse of a person in custody; Wilson, as an inmate, cannot legally consent to sex. The Times reported that Gonzalez faces 15 years in prison if convicted.
Several of Gonzalez's telephone calls were recorded. In one, she says, according to the Times, "I took a chance because I was so vulnerable and wanted to be loved and now I am carrying his child. Why not give him a child as far as giving him some kind of hope?"
Wilson's first death sentence was tossed out by an appeals court, but at the time the alleged affair began, in March 2012, the government was building a new case for capital punishment, the Times reported. Wilson's lawyers are arguing that he should not receive the death penalty because he has a low IQ.
