Found body believed to be missing Arizona State student
Jack Culolias, 19, disappeared late Nov. 30 after attending a fraternity event at the Cadillac Ranch restaurant and bar in Tempe, Ariz.
Search-and-rescue teams found a body Sunday morning floating in the water north of Tempe Marketplace, the Arizona Republic reported. Tempe police said it could be that of an Arizona State University student who disappeared more than two weeks ago, officials told the paper.
Arizona Search Track and Rescue and Find Me, two groups not affiliated with the Tempe Police Department, found the body near a freeway ramp, the paper reported.
Clothing, physical description and location of where the body was found indicated it likely is that of ASU freshman Jack Culolias, 19, who disappeared late Nov. 30 after attending a fraternity event at the Cadillac Ranch restaurant and bar in Tempe, police told the paper.
The two search organizations began efforts in the area Saturday at the family’s request, and the search dogs with Arizona Search Track and Rescue, a volunteer non-profit, located the body Sunday morning, group Vice Cmdr. Thomas Wind told the paper. The head was floating “close enough to the surface,” about 30 feet from the bank, that “it looked like somebody’s body” to the searchers, he said.
The area was described as “highly vegetated” and “very swamplike,” the paper reported, with overgrown grass, branches and trees that could have obscured the body.
