Another Carnival cruise ship experiences problems

The Carnival Legend is the latest in the cruise line's fleet to have mechanical problems. The ship will skip a scheduled stop at Grand Cayman Islands.

TAMPA, Fla. — Carnival Cruise Lines says one of its ships has experienced problems during a cruise, the second such incident this week.

Late Thursday, the company said "a technical issue" affecting the sailing speed of the Carnival Legend forced the cancellation of a stop at Grand Cayman Islands.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that the Legend is expected to arrive in Tampa as scheduled Sunday. Passengers will get a $100 credit and half off on a future cruise.

This is the fourth cruise ship in just over a month to experience problems during voyage. On Sunday, the Carnival Elation had a "minor issue" with steering that did not delay the ship's passage, the company said. One of its two maneuvering units was taken offline, according to a report by the Houston Chronicle.

Another Carnival ship, the Dream, experienced generator problems while docked in St. Maarten earlier this week and the company announced Thursday that passengers would be flown home.

A month ago, passengers on the Carnival Triumph spent five days in the Gulf of Mexico without power or working toilets.
