Rumor: Sarah Palin to join Al-Jazeera News?

Article claims Palin is planning to become a host on Al-Jazeera America

UNCONFIRMED: Sarah Palin is planning to become a host on Al-Jazeera America

Sarah Palin using her new freedom from FOX News to work for the United States offshoot of Qatar-based Al-Jazeera would be quite a juicy media scoop. The Washington Post, which reported the supposed news, sourced the information to the satire site Daily Currant.

Hook, line and sinker

The Washington Post’s original report authored by Suzi Parker, used a quote from the Daily Currant story that had Palin saying: “As you all know, I’m not a big fan of newspapers, journalists, news anchors and the liberal media in general. But I met with the folks at Al-Jazeera and they told me they reach millions of devoutly religious people who don’t watch CBS or CNN. That tells me they don’t have a liberal bias.”

Palin and FOX have parted ways and the former Alaska governor is trying to stay relevant. But Al-Jazeera America, a news organization that just purchased Al Gore’s left leaning Current TV, has long been assailed by some conservatives as being “anti-American,” despite winning numerous awards for investigative journalism.

Disclaimer noted

If the Daily Currant’s bevy of news stories “reporting” things like “Catholic Church Considering Jerry Sandusky as Next Pope” and “Vladimir Putin Kills Grizzly Bear With Bare Hands” wasn’t enough to tip off journalists that the stories are fake, in the “About” section of the website, all is made very clear: “Q. Are your news stories real? A. No. Our stories are purely fictional. However they are meant to address real-world issues through satire and often refer and link to real events happening in the world.”

Correction issued

As news of the Post’s error spread to websites like Politico, The Blaze and Business Insider, WaPo issued the following correction noting their mistake: “An earlier version of this post incorrectly reported that Sarah Palin had signed on as a contributor to the Al Jazeera America news network. The blogger cited a report on the Daily Currant Web site as the basis for that information without realizing that the piece was satirical.”
