CONFIRMED: IHOP is giving out free pancakes

The California-based breakfast chain announced on its website that it will be serving a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes on National Pancake Day, which is today.

Free flapjacks for charity

IHOP has raised more than $10 million to support charities since it started celebrating National Pancake Day in 2006. Last year, it gave away 4 million pancakes and raised more than $3 million.

In return for the free pancakes, guests will be asked to make a volunteer donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals or other designated local charities. IHOP hopes to raise $3 million for charity this year.

IHOP will be serving the free flapjacks from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. The company has roughly 1,565 chains nationwide.

Reaction on social media

IHOP fans took to Twitter to share the news. "My only motivation to wake up tomorrow is free pancake day at ihop," tweeted Twitter user Mal.

The Miss America Organization tweeted that Miss America Mallory Hagan, a goodwill ambassador for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, is in Los Angeles to celebrate National Pancake Day.
