The Iowa farm featured in the beloved baseball movie "Field of Dreams" has been bought by an investment group featuring former Boston Red Sox great Wade Boggs.

The sprawling Dyersville, Iowa, plot has been sold for $3.4 million. The new owners hope to turn the 193-acre site into a massive youth baseball complex and preserve the cornfield diamond where Kevin Costner and Ray Liotta played catch in the film.

Before the investors can forge ahead with plans to stage a baseball tournament there in 2014, they must face Iowa locals who have opposed the development, insisting that the new youth sports mecca will damage the area. The case will appear before a judge later this year.
