Burger King's Twitter account was hacked and turned into the company's rival burger chain, McDonald's.
Someone has hacked Burger King's Twitter account and turned it into McDonald's.
The hacker used a photo and logo of Burger King's rival burger chain and claimed that Burger King was just sold to McDonald's:
"Just got sold to McDonalds because the whopper flopped =[ FREDOM IS FAILURE."
Burger King's Twitter account was suspended around 1:15 p.m. EST.
The company gained nearly 30,000 new fans during the hour it was taken over by hackers.
The hacker also posted several messages poking fun at Burger King:
"Try our new BK Bath Salt! 99% Pure MDPV! Buy a Big Mac, get a gram free!" the hacker tweeted.
Some of the hacked tweets were offensive, referring to drugs and obscenities. The hacker also tweeted: ""if I catch you at a wendys, we're fightin!"
Hacker group Anonymous posted on the hacked page saying: "We're guessing the BurgerKing social media team is having a bad day..."
The group is calling the hacking "#OPMadCow" in its tweets and has indirectly indicated that they may be behind the hacking.
Other Twitter users also chimed in, with OAFEnet tweeting: "They may be hacked, but when was the last time ANYBODY talked about BurgerKing this much?"
Some found the hacking funny.
"The fact that BurgerKing got hacked and turned into a McDonalds feed is pretty funny. Never know what is going to happen in social media," tweeted Twitter user Ryan Workman.
McDonald's tweeted that they were sorry to hear about the hacking:
