Amazon released an interactive "Love Stories" map that pairs each state with a romantic novel.
Looking for romance on Valentine's Day? Amazon has a few suggestions.
Fifty, to be exact.
Amazon released a "Love Stories" map of the U.S. on its website ahead of Valentine's Day. The map displays all 50 states with a heart on each state. Clicking the heart takes browsers to a romance novel set in that state.
"These diverse picks explore love in all its forms, from classic novels of romance and consuming passion, to twisted (and sometimes true) tales of love gone wrong, to stories that delve into the complex but enduring bonds between family and friends," Amazon wrote.
Some of the picks are obvious — the classic "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell is paired with Georgia, for example.
Others take a different approach to love than the typical Valentine's Day sweetness. "The Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck is paired with Oklahoma because "Rose of Sharon's final act is a profound lesson in love."
The site offers additional suggestions on top of the 50 assigned to states. For Washington state, for example, "Snow Falling on Cedars" is listed as the state's "love story," but Amazon lists the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy and the "Twilight" saga — which take place in Seattle and Forks, Wash., respectively — as honorable mentions from the state.
The suggestions run the gamut from racy titles like "Fifty Shades" to classics like "A Streetcar Named Desire" to even sports stories like Kansas' "Our Boys," the story of a small-town football team that learns to "love each other like family."
