Calif. governor being treated for early stage prostate cancer

The prognosis for Gov. Jerry Brown is excellent after he began treatment for prostate cancer, according to his doctor.

SACRAMENTO – California Gov. Jerry Brown is undergoing treatment for early stage prostate cancer, and has an excellent prognosis, his office said on Wednesday.

"Fortunately, this is early stage localized prostate cancer, which is being treated with a short course of conventional radiotherapy," the Democratic governor's oncologist, Dr. Eric Small, said in a statement.

"The prognosis is excellent, and there are not expected to be any significant side effects," he added.
